What are some of your favorite parts about being an independent consultant?

The ability to do what I want when I want! It’s total freedom. I pick the conferences I want to attend, the projects I want to work on, and my plan for professional development. It’s empowering to be solely accountable for my success. 

I also love the flexibility to work wherever, and whenever. When my family asks me to visit, I can leave my home office and work anywhere in the world without a second thought. 

As a woman in tech, it’s also incredible that I control my income and determine my worth. Being my own boss affords that. If I want to hustle and take on extra work to cover a home renovation or slow down and pivot for other priorities, that’s my choice. 

How does working with 10K let you focus on the work you love?

As a business owner, I constantly juggle priorities – billable hours, business development, etc. – and I don’t always have time to market my services. 10K has helped me fill in the gaps and build a sustainable consulting business. 

I love that it’s a bespoke project-matching experience and not a free-for-all marketplace. They’re tuned into my strengths, interests, and skills, so I’m only offered opportunities I would seek out myself. 10K’s support helps me focus on the project work and ensure success and a good experience for the client.

How has 10K shaped your career? Helped you advance your skills?

Since working with 10K, I’ve gotten tons of exposure to projects I wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. That’s helped me level up my skills and deepened my experience as a consultant. And because 10K is a hand-picked community of independents, I have the opportunity to work with some wildly smart Salesforce experts. 

Shoutout to Nate – I adore working with him because he’s super smart, and I learn so much from him. Knowledge sharing is crucial as an independent. 

I’m also deeply committed to my professional development. Last year I made it a goal to speak at more conferences. The 10K team is deeply connected in the ecosystem, so I’m more tuned into speaking opportunities and feel comfortable asking them for support. When I was scheduled to speak at TDX, 10K was on the sidelines cheering me on and promoting my session. They give us marketing power and genuinely care about advancing their experts’ brands.

The 10K Expert Community has reframed the lonely parts of being an entrepreneur. I feel secure being part of a community of experienced, smart, and supportive independent consultants happy to lend a hand. Our Slack for peer-to-peer questions is a game-changer. I can turn to our community at any time to bounce around ideas or troubleshoot an issue.
